LEAPs Workshop in Nizhyn Nizhyn, May 18-19, 2016

In mid-May, the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) hosted a workshop in Nizhyn, Ukraine to help kick off the development of local environmental and energy action plans in the municipality. The event’s 41 participants represented various stakeholder groups from the business community, academia, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and local government.

Course for Sustainability “Resilience and Sustainability of Municipalities” Venice, November 22–29, 2015

The course addresses the issue of managing local resources and energy in Ukraine, while stressing the importance of applying innovative resource management skills at the municipal level. The Sustainable Development Academy developed the course together with Venice International University.

“Strengthening the Local Environmental Planning and Environmental Civil Society in Ukraine: Cities as drivers of Sustainable Development in Ukraine” Kyiv, October 19-20, 2015

The conference brought together more than 100 key national and international stakeholders, including representatives of national and local governments, the Parliament of Ukraine, civil society organisations, academia, businesses and media, as well as international donor agencies and financing institutions. The purpose of the event was to discuss Ukraine’s environmental and energy priorities and to mobilise resources for future actions.

First meetings with project stakeholders February 2015

In February 2015, the REC team visited different stakeholder groups in three partner municipalities (Cherkasy, Poltava and Ivano-Frankivsk), representatives from Ukraine’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services.

LEAP Workshop in Cherkasy May 20

REC experts organised a LEAP workshop for representatives of municipal administration, academia, the business community and NGOs in Cherkasy, which was held on May 18, 2015. The main outcome of the workshop was the identification of four priority environmental issues for the city.

LEAP Workshop in Poltava May 20

On May 20, 2015, the REC team facilitated a workshop on LEAP methodology for different stakeholder groups in Poltava. Representatives of academia, the business community and civil society, working together with municipal administration personnel, developed a local environmental action plan.

REC experts held a LEAP workshop for experts from various fields in Ivano-Frankivsk on May 22, 2015. Representatives of local municipality, academia, the business community and NGOs cooperated in developing a local environmental action plan.
